Location: Portland, OR, USA
Description: Our music is a gorgeous mix of soul, funk, pop, and jazz. It will move your body and mind, and leave you wanting more...
Biography: For the past year, intervision has single-handedly created a groove epidemic in their hometown of Portland, OR. Combining elements of soul, rock, jazz, and pop, the quintet is earning lofty comparisons to bands like Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, and Jamiroquai, yet have created their own intensely unique sound.

The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their sophomore album at Portland’s Kung Fu Bakery with Bob Stark in Portland, OR. Due for a regional release in April 2007 it reflects a mature evolution of a band that is setting itself apart from the pack. Showcasing the super soul-powered vocals of lead singer Paul Creighton, rich harmonies and several of the cities best studio musicians, it is already turning industry ears their way (they have secured distribution with Burnside).

From their roots as young music students at Clackamas Community College to one of PDX’s most popular groups, the band has enjoyed distinguished performances at the Bite of Oregon A & E Mainstage, Musicfest NW, Aladdin Theater and have been a fixture on local television like KATU’s AM Northwest and PDXposed.

intervision recently opened for Lifehouse, received consistent circulation on Live 365 PopUp Radio, airplay on KINK FM 101.9, KNRK 94.7, 105.1 The Buzz, and heavy rotation on local university stations. The band has earned considerable support from KINK as they were featured on KINK’s Noontunes at Pioneer Courthouse Square in the summer of 2006 and have been repeatedly featured on the KINK Early Escape Cruises since 2005.

Their 2005 debut release, Inside, has sold more than 2,500 copies in Portland. Recorded at Kung Fu Bakery, the album features such guest musicians as (woodwinds/Ani Difranco) and legendary Portland guitarist Dan Balmer, and was co-produced with Bob Stark.

The Oregonian writes, “It’s a sweet listen. Lyrics tug at the heart from everyday moments, while pure vocals steer melodies over engaging rhythms.”

Led by the soulful tenor of lead vocalist Paul Creighton, each member of the band asserts a distinct musical personality that has added to their unique style. While Creighton’s sound invokes Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Sting, and the improvisational flavor of Kurt Elling, the influences of Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots, and Dave Matthews are sewn in by the rhythmic riffs of guitarist/vocalist Tony Stovin. Keyboardist Kit Taylor rounds out the three-vocal front with his own twists of jazz and hip-hop while bassist Mike Glidden and drummer Jon Barber lay down their signature undulating groove.

While 2006 brought this band to the forefront of their local music scene, 2007 promises to break them to a whole new level; with dates starting to emerge regionally, they have only begun to fulfill their promise of bringing fresh sounds to eager ears and booties around the world.

(Portland, OR)---In the land of indie rock, interVision is single-handedly creating a groove revolution. Due in stores everywhere April 10th through Burnside Distribution, the band’s sophomore independent release, Shades of Neptune, finds the band creating on a whole new level. Sponsored by Music Millennium and Charlie FM, their April 7th kick-off party at the Aladdin Theater will include an opening performance from Tim Reynold’s compadre, Marcus Eaton and a slew of special guest appearances- including trumpeter Paul Mazzio, Steve Christofferson, saxophonists Josh Cliburn, Trevor Rasmussen among others. The talented Shel Bailey from Charlie FM will MC.

The Story

After hearing their debut album, Inside (2005), which earned them considerable praise on a local level, an industry insider told interVision’s Paul Creighton he should hire some songwriters and follow Maroon 5’s direction (the band at the time was ironically called Intervision 5), shop labels and try to get signed. So he took the advice back to the band& and they tossed it out. Instead, they decided more firmly than ever to concentrate on where they wanted to go with their sound and their songwriting. A year, more than 100 shows- including a performance for Lifehouse, as well as co-headling shows at the Crystal Ballroom, Aladdin Theater, the Bite of Oregon’s Mainstage- and countless rehearsals and studio hours later, they are on the eve of releasing a breakthrough album that is at once eclectic and cohesive, introspective and fun, musically heavy and insanely groovin. Aided by the able ears of Bob Stark at Kung Fu Bakery the band has brought together their favorite elements of soul, pop, rock and jazz, fusing them into a cohesive package that is compelling and cutting edge. While the new material has been compared to Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and Jamiroquai, interVision has successfully accomplished what they set out to do- created their own sound and style.
“We really aren’t too concerned with our aptitude for radio,” says Creighton. “We made a promise to ourselves to focus on making great music and I think we’ve accomplished that.”

From the jazz-fusion infused lead track “10,000 Years” to the dance-with-a-message vibe of “Take My Hands,” to the Motown bounce and instantly memorable chorus of “All I’m Thinkin’ About” to the epic, yet spacious R&B anthem “Live Out Loud,” each song on Shades of Neptune has its own distinct flavor and yet is tied together by an indescribable continuity that hearkens back to the heydays of albums like Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life or Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On. “We wanted to make a record that was thoroughly memorable,” says Tony Stovin, interVision’s guitarist, “taking you back to the days when the more you go into a record, the more it got into you.”

A host of Portland’s musical all stars helps interVision along the way, including saxophonist Josh Cliburn (Rubberneck, Porterhouse), Paul Mazzio (Nu Shooz), trumpet & flugelhorn, Hans Teuber (Ani DiFranco, Mudhoney), woodwinds, Steve Christofferson (Nancy King), melodica, and Bob Stark (Everclear, Quaterflash) contributing a number of loops, noises and tonal incidents.

Even with the all star enlistment, however, one can hear the entire band’s forward progression on this album. None so much, perhaps, as the band’s lead singer Paul Creighton, who truly has come into his own as a lyricist, songwriter and singer. With every unique line, rhythmic twist and melodic idea it is vitally apparent that Portland (unbeknownst to him) has a bona fide rising national star in its midst. The band is now gearing up for a busy Spring in the Northwest with dates that include Boise, Seattle, Tacoma, Eugene, Bend, Salem, Hood River and their hometown of Portland, OR. When the album hits the street, the band hits the road and the internet on a no holds barred mission to get Shades of Neptune into music lover’s ears. And by the sounds of it they’re going to like what they hear.
