Description: At first glance, Janubia, who communicates in an "untethered" language may seem like a niche phenomenon; however, with the advent of Enya's Loxian hitting the airwaves and the ever-growing popularity of Sigur Ros, this supposition is groundless.
Biography: Born in Omaha and raised in Colorado, Janubia has been performing since the age of three. Choirs, jazz groups, musicals, rock bands, she did them all. But on her own she would sing in her mysterious, untethered language. Until a few years ago she had never uttered it publicly. "It was something that I did when I was alone--when I was expressing my heart. But a few years ago I did two completely different gigs in the same week, one was a street fair with a tribe of hand drummers, and the other a mellow rock band during a prayer service. After seeing how the language affected people, I knew I was supposed to open my hands and set it free." However "setting it free" would have to wait until she purged herself of the standard, rock music pursuit. This she did with amazing fervor until, at the point of contract negotiations with a major label, she realized the bubble had popped. "The joy had gone out of it. I had forgotten why I was doing it in the first place." She quit music. Thanks to the patience of producer, Alex de Rafols, and drummer, Andrew Mills, as well as a close circle of friends, Janubia began to occasionally "play" in the studio. She began to remember her heart. She remembered the "inner urging" that had suggested she share her language. So, armed with only one rule - To Have FUN - Janubia stepped back in front of the mic and recorded her debut release, Mother Tongue. Presently living in Los Angeles, California, Janubia and her "friends in fun" are currently recording an E.P and CD #2.
